This is great advice. I started my blog about 3 months ago and I am interested in doing giveaways. How do I get on lists for giveaways or products to test? I have joined a few blog communities…am I on the right path?

Giveaways… I’m more of an entrant, but I can offer a few things from that perspective:

1. You’d be amazed how many giveaways forget to tell you when the contest starts and stops!
2. Find blog posts that do Mr. Linkys and promote contests/giveaways. Will get you a lot more traffic.
3. Admittedly, twitter is another great way to promote the contest, but I think the number of entries you allow and what you ask of the participants should depend on your readers. I’m a mom of a 1 year old- if I have time to enter a giveaway, YAY!! Please don’t make me twitter, digg, become your friend, etc. to get my entry. I don’t have time to do all that and I just left your site potentially not entering because I feel like there’s no way I can compete with those that do. However, if you’ve got a diverse readership, maybe you want to get some extra entries in there. But if you’ve got a lot of mommy readers, please be kind to us. One entry with a comment or question.
4. And yes, entrants will come back if they like your blog. A giveaway can be very worth it. The comments alone for the contest are usually so kind and complimentary. Really fun. 🙂
