I get asked all the time about how I am able to read so many books. Usually, my first answer is I don’t watch TV. I couldn’t tell you the last Netflix show I binge-watched or even the last show I watched on TV. Books are my TV.

My second answer is, I usually have three different books going on at the same time. I always have a physical book I’m reading, either one I own or from the library. In addition, I take my e-reader with me everywhere. That way I have a book to read when I’m waiting for appointments or I am in line somewhere. Finally, I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I would say about 50% of the books I “read” are in audiobook format. I listen when I’m getting ready in the morning, anytime I’m in the car alone and when I’m doing things like cooking dinner or cleaning the house. …

Weight Watchers changing to the the new Freestyle program has me thinking a lot about my friend Andie Mitchell’s cookbook Eating in the Middle. The new Weight Watchers Freestyle program seems to be a lot about practical balance. Those of you who follow Andie know this is exactly what she has been preaching for years. It’s not about elimination and deprivation, it’s about “wholesome eating, most of the time”. I really like that concept and think this cookbook is going to guide me well throughout my journey.

I’ve been cooking from this book since receiving it a year ago. I can’t believe I haven’t shared it on Dine & Dish with you. Now’s the time!

Friends, this year has been so hard, hasn’t it? It seems not a week goes by where there isn’t some unthinkable tragedy. From the devastating hurricanes in Texas and Puerto Rico, massive wildfires in California, to the horrible mass shootings in Las Vegas and now Texas, my heart is breaking over and over again. It’s hard to not feel overwhelmed and sad all the time.

Our family has been doing more volunteer work than normal, making hygiene kits for hurricane victims, participating in diaper drives, donating money and more. There are so many needs all over and often it’s hard to feel like we are making a difference at all….
