Ingredients

For the cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup whole chocolate milk Vitamin D, full fat Chocolate Milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces unsweetened or semi-sweet chocolate melted
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 6 Tablespoons whole chocolate milk Vitamin D, full fat chocolate milk

Instructions

For the cookies

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening and brown sugar. Add in the egg, chocolate milk, and vanilla. Pour in the melted chocolate and mix on medium speed until well blended.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda; gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Mix on low until fully incorporated.
  • Drop dough by the spoonful, 2-inches apart onto a silpat or parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake for 12-13 minutes. Remove from the oven then transfer cookies to wire cooling rack. Frost when cooled to room temperature.

For the frosting

  • In a medium mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in vanilla extract and chocolate milk until creamy. Frosting should be smooth and easy to spread onto cooled cookies.
  • For best results and freshness, store frosted cookies in an airtight container.

Notes

For the best chocolate flavor, only use WHOLE chocolate milk. 2% will not provide a strong chocolate flavor.
