It’s that time of year where my self control goes out the window. With all the cookies, candies and cocktails everywhere we look, staying on track to maintain a healthy lifestyle isn’t the easiest. I’m horrible at resisting temptation, so I have to make sure that all along the way I have good food options too. That way, making healthy choices is a bit easier.

In addition to all the holiday goodies lying around, I always make sure to have bowls of fruit and vegetables at the ready. Mighties® Kiwi are one of our favorite, healthy staples. Known for being always ripe and ready to eat, Mighties® Kiwi are one of the easiest to eat snacks there is. Around our house, they go into lunch boxes, get taken on the bus to basketball games, are a common after school snack, a healthy side dish at dinner and more. From my 7 year old up to my teens, Mighties® Kiwi are much loved in our home….

My plea to my Facebook friends was real… “Will someone PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come get this Whipped Goat Cheese and Honey Spread OUT of my house? I can’t be trusted around it any longer!”

Friends, I was first introduced to this amazing appetizer when my lunch bunch gals and I visited the world renowned Kansas City restaurant, Rye. I had one of the best lunches of my life at Rye, and this Whipped Goat Cheese spread was one of the reasons. It was so good! After my visit, when I received an email from a publisher asking if I’d be interested in receiving the cookbook Made In America, which features the recipes they use at Rye, I jumped at the chance! When the cookbook arrived, I flipped the pages to find out if my favorite new goat cheese appetizer was there, and it was! Naturally, I had to make it….

I’ve been going since November, at first consistently, then, you know… I left town for a bit and had way too many Pina Coladas…and was nervous to step on that scale when I returned. Turns out, I only gained 1 pound, and am now down 10 pounds total since I first joined (without whole heartedly trying). It’s funny how we take a look at things and only pick out the negative. “Oh, I’ve eaten too much over the past month so surely the scale is going to show me the worst”. Instead of… “I went to the gym 4 times a week this month and exercised almost every day on my vacation, so the scale is going to be really nice to me!” Turns out, it’s silly to expect the worst, isn’t it?

I haven’t been a very good Weight Watcher since the new year. I haven’t done a very good job of counting points and staying on plan, but what has clicked with me is that I’m more aware of what I put into my mouth. In fact, yesterday, I mindlessly put a bite of a dessert I was making for a client in my mouth, and ended up spitting it out because I didn’t want it. It’s such a habit for me to just eat whatever is in front of me! I’m trying to change that….

I’ve never been very good at appetizers, until I discovered the ease and versatility of Bruschetta.

This Lemon Basil Bruschetta was the perfect idea to take to my friend, Liz’s, Virtual Baby Shower! I’m sure you know Liz from The Lemon Bowl, right? She’s having another baby boy very soon and a few of her friends and I decided to throw her a virtual baby shower to celebrate!

I’m all for baby showers and people having babies and all, but I really must confess that I’m a little annoyed with Liz for having another boy… she’s kind of got the market on cuteness with her first son, Asher. I’m not sure what she’s trying to pull bringing more cute into the world. Sounds like some kind of crazy blog stunt to me! (That’s Asher, hanging out with me in Michigan this summer… little did I know at that point that he’s kind of a ladies man and I’m pretty sure has long forgotten about me by now. I still love him though!)…

Friends, there are times when I get really stumped as to what to name a recipe. Take this tasty creation pictured above. We have a tender whole grain pizza crust topped with Wholly Salsa Avocado Verde, creamy goat cheese and roasted red peppers. It’s not really pizza, even though I used a pizza crust as a base. It’s filling enough for brunch or lunch, yet it’s also easy enough for an appetizer. Any ideas?

I think for now I’ll simply call it oh so good! …
