Amish Sugar Cookies are a simple, soft and flavorful sugar cookie, made famous by the Amish.

One of Nick’s sisters lives in an Amish town. Every time we visit, I’m convinced we need to move away from the city, give up modern technology, and live the life of the Amish.

Then I remember I’m a blogger and 75% of my job requires a super fast internet connection, electricity and all things non-Amish. But still, with every horse drawn carriage I see hitched to a pole at the corner market, every yard we pass with clothes drying in the wind, and every hard working family I notice working out in their garden, I get a little twinge of wistfulness for a simpler life….

Exactly one year ago May 1st, I started a journey of a lifetime. Yes, I got my very first tattoo, but more importantly I started my own 1 Second Everyday Video project.

My friend Cheryl was into her second year of capturing 1 second of video memories everyday. I fell in love with her very first 365 day compilation and decided I wanted to give this kind of video project a try as well. I am so very glad I did. Doing a 1 Second Everyday video project has probably been one of the most fun and meaningful projects I’ve ever embarked on. …

5 Reasons I Love Snapchat (And Think You Will Too)

Adults are taking over Snapchat (sorry kids!). Here are a few reasons I love Snapchat and think you will too! (PS – it’s no longer what you think!)

Friends, I know what you’re thinking… no my teenager hasn’t taken over my blog. It’s me, Kristen (dineanddish on Snapchat), the 42 year old mom of 4 here professing my love for Snapchat. Yes, that snapchat… the app that we have been banning from our kids phones and questioning why anyone would want to use an app where the images and chats disappear into thin air after viewed.

Let me start by asking you to just give me a chance to explain. Trust me, I was just like you not too many months ago. I assumed that Snapchat was simply for kids to send inappropriate pictures to each other – which may have been the case back then. But Snapchat has changed for the better with the introduction of Snapchat Stories. Snapchat Stories has opened up a whole new world to would be snapchat users. If you are into memory keeping through photos and videos in an incredibly simple format, you will love Snapchat.

The Summer of Yes {In 1 Second Everyday}

Our summer is officially over and the kids have been in school now for a whole week. It was so hard for me to let summer go this year because it was one of our best, yet. I intentionally didn’t do my typical Summer Bucket List, but instead deemed the summer of 2015 “The Summer of Yes”.

I vowed that this summer, I was going to say yes as much as I could. If the kids asked to do something or had an idea, even a far out there idea, I said yes (naturally within reason). We had so much fun!

It was the summer of lots of swimming, beaches, pink hair, reading, ice cream for breakfast, sno cones for lunch, sleeping in, staying up late, friends, family, baseball, bike rides, travel and more. I loved absolutely every last second of our summer! (Well I could have done without my mom being so sick and hospitalized for most of it, but even that brought some fun adventures for our family). …

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably witnessed my sheer excitement over my new pie crust recipe and pie making this past week! You see, I have struggled to make a good pie crust for as long as I’ve can remember. Nothing…I mean NOTHING…would get me cursing up a storm like pie crust making. (Ok maybe my supposedly “wireless printer” and the fact that it NEVER works when I need it to gets me cussing more, but pie crust has been a close second!)

That’s why I thought it was rather comical when the folks at Crisco called me to be a part of their Crisco Pie and Baking hotline and blogger team. I literally laughed on the phone and remember saying something like “I can make the insides of pies that are amazing. I can make meringue with perfect peaks. I, for the life of me, cannot make a pie crust!” But then I said… “You know what would be cool? My friend, DeLynn, is a county fair champion pie making expert. She’s been prodding me for years now to let her teach me how to make a great pie! Wouldn’t it be fun to have DeLynn teach us how and then if she’s successful, I could hopefully give hope to the pie crust making hopeless – like me?”

So pie challenged friends, thanks to my friend DeLynn, I am here to give you hope. That pretty pie crust up there? I made it myself. And since learning from DeLynn last week, I’ve made 4 more! I am officially in the it’s “easy as pie” camp, and I think you can be too! …
