The other day, I made no secret of the fact that winter depresses me. I have never understood how people in the arctic cold climates keep a smile on their face when the sky is gray and the temps are frigid. I am a person who needs warmth and sunshine. I love the sounds of the warmer months… the smells of the warmer months and the ability to just sit outside and let the suns rays absorb me.

As much as I complain about winter, there are a few things that I like about it. I do love winter clothing…bulky sweaters that wrap you in comfort, fleece pajamas that make you long to stay in bed all day and the beauty of looking out as the first snow silently falls on the ground. I love being forced by the cold weather to stay in side and the slower pace that seems to happen during the frigid days.

One custom that I routinely participate in during the winter months is a half hour of calm and quiet. I have never been one to practice traditional meditation, but I am one who appreciates the sound of silence and being alone with my thoughts. Part of this routine, on a daily basis, is to make myself a cup of hot tea. There is something about having a hot cup of tea (with honey in it) that forces a person to slow down. One can’t guzzle tea. The only way to really appreciate a cup of hot tea is to sit down, slowly sip it and appreciate the warmth it brings to you, both inside and out.

This photo is my entry into the CLICK event over at the Jugalbandi blog. The theme this month is Liquid Comfort.

Great photo! How did you do it? One hand pours, and the other snaps the photo?

I am one of those freaks. I lived in the sunshine and warmth and was miserable. I think everyone has a climate or place for them.

I’ve been peeking into your blog for some time now. I love your idea of an "adopt a blogger" and would have signed up if I was aware of it sooner. Great idea!

A cup of comfort hits home with me. I am a tea drinker and like it made properly. A cup of tea (typically green) does provide me with a sense of overwhelming calm. I so look forward to my afternoon tea as well as my morning tea and my evening chamomile tea. What’s cute is my husband swears he can’t get to sleep without his evening chamomile tea and he takes it with him when he travels on business!

I understand you so well, Kristen! Although we have cold days in winter here in Barcelona, we see the sun often, and this January, exceptionally, it’s been so warm!!! Grey days and rain and cold do depress me too. I’m blowing some sun and heat for you!!!!
    Lovely picture 😀

You’re so right–as much as winter can totally suck, a nice cup of tea never tastes better than on a cold day. Lovely pic too!

I’m going to put a pot on for tea right now. Beautiful photo. You have a great eye! I’m lovin’ your blog. Also- thanks for being the first non family member to post on my blog. I literally squeaked with excitement. Thanks.

I feel better just by reading this! You have a way of writing that’s soothing.
I agree with you on the sweaters and pajamas. The bagginess covers up my protruding stomach. Ha ha. Why-oh-why did I have to indulge so much during Christmas?!

wow, that’s beautiful. is the camera on a tripod? how did you catch the perfect honey-dripping moment? will you come to my house and take pictures of my food?

i’m off to the office kitchen to make some tea.

please don’t get me started on tea! we actually have a scale and weigh out our loose leaf tea….AND then get the correct temperature water from our electric water heater that has exact settings….love it! the picture is stunning, too.

it turns out my adoption blogger doesn’t want me =( I stopped by her blog today and she introduced someone else as her adopted newbie….any others you can pair me with? I was so excited…..

I understand how you feel. Snow and ice really depress me because it makes it hard for me to get anywhere, and the constant gray in the skies just makes me want to go back to bed. I can hardly wait for spring again.
