Eat. Live. Be. Week 3 (Recipe: Recipe Girl Fish Tacos)

Mexican Spice Recipe

I’m going to just get right to business here. The scale was not so nice to me this past Monday for weigh in, and after some of my behavior from this past week, I wouldn’t expect it to be.

I knew when I first posted my weight on my blog, it would be hard putting it all out there. I do have to tell you though, what is even harder is coming back to you all, merely two weeks later, and saying I flubbed up. I had a somewhat stressful week, and like I do when I’m stressed, I ate. In fact, if you can jump in here and make me feel a little better by at least admitting that my logic is somewhat typical, I’d appreciate it. Here’s the deal…

I had a weak moment at the grocery store this past Tuesday and purchased a bag of Cookies & Cream Hershey’s Kisses. On Wednesday, I opened up the package and had one little kiss. Then I had two… then I had three, four and five. Finally, I realized that I cannot trust myself to have Cookies & Cream Hershey’s Kisses in my house and since I had already screwed up, I decided I’d better get rid of the Hershey’s Kisses. So, I did what any sane person trying to watch their weight would do. I spent the day eating the WHOLE package of Hershey’s Kisses!! I mean, if I was going to screw up, I might as well just go all out in one day, get rid of temptation all together so that the rest of the week those Hershey’s Kisses wouldn’t be calling my name. Great logic, right?

So, I’m back on the wagon again. Thank goodness I’ve been keeping up on my exercise as that is the one and only thing that kept the scale from tipping even further up! This week, so far so good and I plan to keep it that way. Hopefully you’ll hear cheers from me next Monday as I step on the scale again. For anyone keeping track, I am up .9 from 178.1 last week, which isn’t horrible, but still… My Eat. Live. Be friends did much better than I did this week! Make sure to check out the Eat. Live. Be Facebook page to see their updates.

Finally, I promised you all this wouldn’t turn into a diet blog, so because of that I’m going to go to extremes and share with you a recipe that convinced me to go out and buy a deep fryer. I’ve never owned a deep fryer, but after Rachelle from the blog “Mommy? I’m Hungry” shared with me on the Dine & Dish Facebook page that her favorite fish taco recipe was this one from Recipe Girl, I knew I had to try it. And try it, I did… 5 times since the first time in mid-December. I haven’t had it since joining Weight Watchers, but I think I’m going to have to build in a splurge day sometime in the next month to have these again… they are so good! Head over to Recipe Girl’s site to find the recipe for Beer Battered Fish Tacos with Creamy Baja Sauce. If you are looking for a good All Purpose Mexican Seasoning recipe to use for her delicious Fish Tacos, this is the recipe Rachelle turned me onto for that as well. Enjoy!

We ALL do that Kristen! You’re not alone! The fact that you’re back on the horse AND you kept exercising is commendable! Go Kristen GO! I’m off to the gym now thanks for the kick in the fanny! 🙂

Ah, thanks for the shout-out! And DON’T WORRY about the slow, sometimes up/down loss. Us food bloggers wouldn’t be normal if we lost consistently! And research shows that when you take it off slooooowly, you’re more likely to keep it off for good. I’ve been at this since the beginning of October- have had a few ups and downs. You can do it too!

It happens! Not my best week either. The queso dip and salty chips kept pulling me back for more. New day! Great attitude and the fish tacos look great.

Yes — I’ll jump in and say, very typical logic. I have done that so many times: “Ok, well, today’s battle is already lost… might as well go all the way.” Also — stress eating? Please. It’s like a hobby. For a LOT of us.

So, you are NOT alone — but you are super courageous to put it all out there and share this with us! Thanks. And, thanks for the tip on the fish tacos!

I gained 20 pounds since i started food blogging and have traded exercising for blogging, so it seems. It’s been a struggle for me too, but reading your journey through this really helps me in many ways. thank you.
and your photographs are just so beautiful!! they pop. ox

Oh, my, do you sound like your mother! I, too, had a Hershey’s kisses craving last week. They are such great stress relievers… My logic is, if dark chocolate is good for anti-oxidents, then you have to eat twice as much milk chocolate to get the same results…Right? Well, congratulations to you for getting back on the diet wagon this week. You will make it! Just keep tempting things out of the house!

If it makes you feel any better, I did the exact same thing last week. With a family sized bag of pretzel M+M’s. SO glad it’s gone. And glad that I’m not the only one who thinks with such sordid logic. From now on…there will be no M+M’s or Kisses or anything of the sort in the house.

You are kind of making me wish I had a deep fryer with these tacos. But then…that’s probably one of those things I shouldn’t keep around.

Eating the whole bag: typical logic
Admitting you did it: the difference between luke warm and serious about your goal!

Everyone has those stressful days, weeks, months! Good job for recognizing it and fixing it! That’s what counts 🙂

(Jumping up and down waving her arm in the air) Me! Me! I’m a stress eater! I’m probably one of the only brides to gain weight before her wedding, so stressed was I over the whole deal. And what do I do after a particularly hard day? I tuck into Walt’s potty training MnM stash.

Don’t worry. Setbacks happen. At least you’re not back to where you started.

Those darn hershey kisses! They are so addictive! I’m right with you about the exercise. If I didn’t, then I’d probably be huge with the way I eat! I also wanted to mention that you are so brave putting your weight ‘out there’ & blogging about this journey. Good for you! Keep up the good work!

i’m focusing on moving my body more and i’ve been consistent this week so am grateful; i must remember to take the aspirin immediately following the treadmill though or about 30 minutes afterwards, i’m barely moving! yep, that outta shape!!! ‘just keep swimming . . . just keep swimming . . .’

Oh Kristin, eating the whole package of something like that happens to all of us from time to time. Feels great the first few & then you just can’t stop yourself. Glad to hear you are back on the wagon eating healthy tacos 🙂 xo

Chin up, Kristen! I lost all of my pregnancy weight, got rid of my ‘fat clothes’, and gained over 10 pounds back so I’m stuck with clothes too small. There will be MANY bumps along the way but being able to get back on track is what will keep you going.

Your logic is totally typical/a-okay. 🙂

That said, now you know to steer clear of those Hershey’s Kisses. How evil of them! Those shiny wrappers bedazzle many….

I eat dark chocolate (which I too think I should be able to eat twice the amount in lieu of milk chocolate), but, I’m a bit addicted to it, or at least to the Hershey’s Dark Chocolate bar, which has a not so great fat content (unless you can nibble a square a day, I suppose, but who does that?). When stressed, I totally feel like I need a fix of it, too. I’ve been trying to grab a pear instead to help curb the cravings. It helps. Sort of. 🙂
    Anyhoo, YOU CAN DO IT!

P.S. It might help if you shop at an organic grocery, as they tend to have less naughty-for-dieting stuff there. And never go grocery shopping hungry or stressed. If possible. Preferably, go after eating a filling, healthy meal after a visit to a spa. 😉

Ah, Kristen…Thank You for being real!! It’s refreshing to know you struggle & put it out there for all of us who struggle too. I’ve been there & feel your pain!! The important thing is that you admitted it & then continued on your journey & didn’t get off the path & quit 🙂 You will SUCCEED!!!

    Thank you for your honesty!

I’m on a diet that allows a weekly splurge. It SAVES me because I CAN wait a few DAYS to indulge! I bought a huge bag of M&Ms and paid my daughter (5 candies per dat) to hide them from me the rest of the week. I have no will power either.

Still last Saturday morning I weighed in. Then had my cheat day with peanut M&Ms, donuts, movie popcorn, French toast, hot cocoa — and by Monday morning I was down a half pound! Planned cheating seems to work well for me!

I just had to comment on this one…because I could have written this myself. Did the EXACT same thing this past week with Dove caramel chocolate thingys. Yep, ate the entire bag. But they are gone and now i can get started…again!! Thanks for posting all this, it is helpful and inspiring. —Susan

awww, don’t worry about getting off track. all that matters is that in the long run you stick to it!

i’ve been using myfitnesspal.com to track calories (and i have the iphone app which is the best thing in the world) and i’ve lost 11 pounds from jan 1st just from food tracking (due to a back injury i’m not allowed to work out yet)
