Peanut Butter Chocolate Goodness

I tend to be one of the first people I know to try new products. Yes…I am a complete sucker for a new idea. I will try something new before the buzz about it hits the streets and the reviews are out on whether the product is great or a bomb. It should come to no surprise then that I snatched up something new to me this week. Reese’s Premier Baking Pieces. These are miniature versions of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup candy bars that are so popular and mini miniature versions of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup miniatures. Got that? Basically, they are really tiny Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups that are suitable for baking. They are bigger than the Reese’s Peanut Butter ice cream toppers but smaller than the miniatures.

I picked up a couple of bags to take home, anxious to give them a try. I had my doubts though… how could these cute little things bake without melting? Would the peanut butter / chocolate combo overpower the cookies? Would I be left with a blended mess of chocolate / peanut butter / cookie gooeyness?

I decided to give these little baking pieces a try by using the basic cookie recipe on the back of the bag. The result? Well…let me just say this. I made these as a dessert for our church fish fry tonight, and I know they aren’t going to last until then. Once my husband comes home and tastes them, they’ll be gone. Not to worry…I mixed up another batch and hid them where my husband and the kids can’t find them.

These little morsels stood up to the heat of the oven and held their shape perfectly. The flavor blended well with the cookie. With each bite you get a burst of creamy peanut butter and chocolate flavor.

There are so many great baking options with this product. If you go to Hershey’s website you’ll find several new recipes using this ingredient that will tempt you. From beverages to tarts, the possibilities are endless.

From Hershey’s website, www.hersheyskitchens.com, here is the recipe.

My heart be still. I like chocolate. I hate chocolate mint. I loooooove chococlate peanut butter! This will be a problem. You could have waited another 5 years to post this one. I’ll probably be buying these soon and then toasting you in the evening. Wooo…

OH YAY!!! I hadn’t heard of these, but I LOVE LOVE anything peanut butter and chocolate and reese’s are my favorite – in any size or variation.

    Your cookies look SO good.

These are a must-buy next time I am at the store. I hope it’s not some regional test-market thing and they have them here in AZ. 🙂

Weight Watchers is not cookie friendly. I can only have one when I want to eat the whole batch. And, when I saw these pics…I wanted to eat the monitor.

Oh wow… these look delightful! I’m a tee-total sucker for peanut butter. It is one of my all-time favorite things and peanut butter COOKIES top the list. These look great. I’m not a cook but might even try them sometime. I don’t blame your family for gobbling them up! Good on you for whipping up a back-up batch! 🙂

These must be a "controlled substance." They can’t be legal?

Must stay on sabbatical! (Cookie sabbatical, that is!) I am really trying to get back into healthier eating, but man that looks good. I actually was toying with the idea of buying those and making cookies with them, but maybe I’ll try it when my cookie sabbatical days are over!

I gotta surprise my wife with these in some cookies, but I’d also like to try adding these to home made ice cream. I’ll keep an eye out for them on my next trip to the store.

I’m definitely going to have to get some of these "morsels." Reese’s are my FAVORITE candy. These cookies look so yummy. Hope your kids are feeling better!

These worked okay for Christmas baking too. I like yours better though. And a bonus, they weren’t so good to eat "raw" out of the bag.

    Kristen,
I don’t know if in the future I’ll be able to find these baking pieces here, but when I do I’ll buy them immediately! 🙂

I don’t know about Reese’s baking pieces, but some chococolate chips I bought once stood up to the heat and I later found out why – they’re not made of real chocolate. They’re made with a kind of chocolate that has palm oil in its formula. I guess the name of it in English is compound chocolate. It’s used for covering some kinds of candy since it doesn’t require being tempered.

ok, that would NEVER work for me because Reese’s are one of my favorite candy and I would eat the whole bag, get a terrible stomachache and sugar buzz and never want to look at food again before I even got my mixer out of the cupboard.

At least I know myself well

Well there’s another 10 lbs to knock off at the gym. Why did you have to tell me about these. Along with the cookies, I bet they would be great in a brownie, or in place of m&m’s in trail mix, or look cute as decoration on a cake, or poured directly from the bag to my mouth.

I want to be mad at you, but I just can’t!

I’ve always loved peanut butter and chocolate. Those cookies look like they should be served at a space station. The baking resees hold their shape so well that they look sort of alien. Cute alien. Yum alien.

Those look like so much fun. I haven’t made cookies in a really long time. I still have the fixin’s for red velvet cupcakes that I have yet to make!

I am not sure I can read this blog anymore. These cookies look delish and I love peanut butter! I want to make these tonight but instead I will probably spend 2 hours running from grocery store to grocery store, searching. It is impossible to find new products in Manhattan, stores tend not to stock items unless they know it will sell due to the limited space 🙁 I am still desperately searching for edy’s take the cake ice cream.

Still no luck finding these in common grocery stores here in the SF bay area. I’ve tried Safeway, Albertsons, Whole Foods and Mollie Stones. I’m on a quest now.
