These Cake Mix Bar Cookies have a gooey layer of powdered sugar and cream cheese mixture, making this great recipe a delicious, easy dessert for any occasion!

I go in phases where I tend to bake the same thing over and over. Most recently, I was on a jello poke cake kick, resulting in the purchase of lots of box cake mixes and jello of different flavors. I really love poke cakes, but I had purchased a bunch of Betty Crocker white cake mix, yellow cake mix, and strawberry cake mix on sale and lost my interest in poke cake before I ran out of cake mix. Story of my life!

In addition to all the cake mix, I had a significant amount of jello on hand as well. I like having boxed ingredients like that on hand to make simple dessert recipes, but when I say I had bought a ton, I’m not exaggerating….

This Crispy Chickpea Pantry Pasta recipe is a simple, vegetarian dish full of wonderful flavors and textures.

This week I’ve become hooked on the Bon Appetit TV channel. Leah and I are cat-sitting for some friends and this is the only channel we can figure out how to watch on their complex TV system, and I’m not mad about it.

Every time we leave the cat to return home, we have a list of new recipe ideas we want to try and dishes we want to eat! This Crispy Chickpea Pantry Pasta recipe adaptation is one such inspiration. I’d never thought about putting chickpeas with pasta, until now. The result was an amazing and easy pantry pasta dish!

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Originally published on December 23rd, 2011 (when my babies were so little). I’m re-publishing it today because this recipe is so good and the memories in this post are some of my favorites!

These big, fluffy, homemade cinnamon rolls have been a part of our Christmas morning for years and years.

The dough is made in your bread machine, which makes it super easy!

There are just a couple more days until Christmas! This morning, as I sit by the light of the Christmas tree, with presents wrapped (ahead of time, which NEVER happens) I can’t help but feel so grateful for all of the blessings in my life. Our family is healthy, our friends are plenty, and life is just really, really good right now.

I love Christmas, for a multitude of reasons, but mostly because it is a season full of traditions. I love all of the traditions we have developed around Christmas within my own family, like these homemade cinnamon rolls. The traditions have become so important to my kids as well. Like Nick and I, they look forward to the traditions we’ve created as much as we do. It really warms my heart so much….

Dear Friend, Leah Turned 9 (Sheet Pan Fruit Pizza)

Dear friend,

We celebrated a birthday last week. Leah, our youngest, turned 9! Ella was just a few months old when I started Dine & Dish, but Leah wasn’t even born. Many of you were there when we found out I was pregnant with a girl, she was born and I made this cute video, and all the other milestones since then. It’s weird to think Dine & Dish is older than my youngest baby, and by quite a few years! It’s been such an honor to have you watch my little family grow up….

A review of my most recent books read as well as a look at the Whipped Goat Cheese and Honey Spread Appetizer recipe from the Made In America cookbook.

My plea to my Facebook friends was real… “Will someone PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come get this Whipped Goat Cheese and Honey Spread OUT of my house? I can’t be trusted around it any longer!”

Friends, I was first introduced to this amazing appetizer when my lunch bunch gals and I visited the world renowned Kansas City restaurant, Rye. I had one of the best lunches of my life at Rye, and this Whipped Goat Cheese spread was one of the reasons. It was so good! After my visit, when I received an email from a publisher asking if I’d be interested in receiving the cookbook Made In America, which features the recipes they use at Rye, I jumped at the chance! When the cookbook arrived, I flipped the pages to find out if my favorite new goat cheese appetizer was there, and it was! Naturally, I had to make it….

Sometimes I think my mom’s generation had it easier when it came to cooking.

All you have to do is look at an old recipe book and you’ll see really doable at home recipes. Not over the top creations, but simple ideas that came out of necessity versus the need to out do or out “Pinterest” someone else.

I love it when I find simple recipes from old magazines and cookbooks. They tend to be classics…without a lot of fuss, but a whole lot of appeal! Those old recipes always provide a neat glimpse into what I assume were the trends from when I was growing up.

Oh Two-Handed Coffee Hour… how I love you so.

Did I ever tell you what inspired my two-handed coffee hour? Well it was a few things. First of all, the name was inspired by this blog post on Under the Sycamore. Adding friends and making it a weekly (or kind of weekly) event was inspired by Desperate Housewives, of all places. I swear I was born to be a 1950’s type housewife…although in reality I’d probably be quite miserable. I mean, what did those ladies do all day without the internet to keep them company? 😉

Anyway, you know how in the show Desperate Housewives, after the men would head off to work (or to their mistresses house or to murder some unsuspecting neighbor) the wives would get together in one of the kitchens and spend an hour or so drinking coffee together, chatting about current life drama? I love that… I wanted that. And in all of my 12 years of being a work from home mom, that’s not something that ever really happened regularly. So, I decided to create my weekly Two-Handed Coffee Hour for a once a week connecting time with friends. And I love doing it as much as I thought I would. It’s a soul charging, happy hour. Connecting, especially when you are fairly isolated at home during the day, is such an important thing. …
