Are you a big snacker? I honestly have never been a big eat in between meals kind of person. I fuel my in between meal time with coffee, for sure, but have never been one to really snack a lot on other things.

I’m starting to think that’s because maybe I haven’t been snacking on the right foods. I made this amazing recipe for Whiskey Honey Toasted Walnuts originally as a salad topper and as something to add texture and flavor to my morning yogurt. What I didn’t expect to happen was to create a new snack food that I just can’t stop eating! I should probably be embarrassed by the sheer number of walnuts I’ve eaten as a snack since creating this recipe. I just can’t seem to get enough of them!…

I used to simply do sandwiches for them… I’d add a fruit and some pretzels or crackers and call it good. It was only recently, when my 9 year old started getting in on the lunch making action, that we started to get a little more creative in our lunch time efforts. Here is what my daughter thinks are the keys to making an exciting lunch!

A sweet and salty popcorn recipe makes the perfect snack on National Popcorn Day or any day of the week. Read below for the Sweet and Salty Buttery Popcorn recipe.

Today is National Popcorn Day…who knew, right?

When I first started blogging, I had what I thought was a brilliant idea. I’d do my blog posts each time it is a National Food day. Oblivious as I was to the fact that every single day is a “national food day” of some sort. Of course, as an over zealous new blogger, I’m sure I figured blogging every single day about whatever star food of the day was would be a cinch. Riiiiigggghhhhttt…. You all know my lack of consistency with posting well enough to guess the outcome.

My dreams of being the “National Food Day” blogger extraordinaire never happened and instead I just hop on the National Food Day bandwagon whenever it is convenient for me, which happened to be today with National Popcorn Day. My kids love popcorn and we make variations of stove top popcorn all the time. That’s what I like about popcorn… you can just pile on whatever you like most (for me, that always includes at least butter) and have a new type of treat each day. Like most of the popcorn we make around here, this isn’t really a recipe. It is just one of the variations of sweet and salty we love.

I hope you had a very happy National Popcorn Day. Let’s celebrate again in a couple days, shall we? I hear it’s national cheese day! Enjoy!

Now for the recipe:

3 Tbsp. Unsalted Butter

4oz. cinnamon flavored marshmallows (1/2 bag)

2 1/2c. Traditional Rice Krispies®

Cinnamon Sugar (Mix to your personal cinnamon/sugar preference)

Melt 3Tbsp. Butter in a heavy saucepan over med-high heat.
Add marshmallows, stirring constantly until melted and mixture is smooth.
Add RiceKrispies® to hot mixture in saucepan (this keeps them warm, and thus easier to manipulate, longer)
Mix thoroughly.

Spray cooking spray on a cookie sheet and pull out small chunks of RiceKrispies mixture one at a time to work with. Pull apart enough to make small balls of krispies treats, slightly smaller than “bite sized”.
You will need to work quickly. The cooler the mixture gets, the more difficult it is to shape.

Roll each ball in the cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat. Set aside on waxed paper.
If not using immediately, cover tightly to store.

Tip **If you want a more crunchy texture to your cinnamon balls, set your marshmallows out the night before so that they dry out. They will melt as normal but when the final mixture cools it will be more crunchy and less chewy.**

Mix Cinnamon balls with 1 1/2c. popped popcorn, 1/2c. salted cashews and 1/2c. chocolate candy pieces.

This is a sponsored post on behalf of The Motherhood and Kelloggs Rice Krispies. All opinions expressed are my own.

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the outlandish, especially when it comes to kids. I forget that to get smiles on their faces, it doesn’t always require something big and grandiose.

In this day and age of elaborate kid parties, parents determined to outdo each other and hyped up hoopla, take some time to do something simple for your kids. It is often the most simple of things that get the biggest smiles!

I saw these Chocolate Dipped Oreo Cookies on a Stick over on Pinterest, which led me to the Hip Hip Hooray site. Being the creatively challenged person that I am, I needed a little more direction (my cookies kept slipping off the stick). Chery from TidyMom came to the rescue by sharing this tutorial over on SheKnows. Once I figured these out, it was approximately 10 minutes from start to smiles from my kids.

A little more fun than just plain Oreos, these Oreo Cookies on a Stick are a simple way to have some fun with your kids.

Oreo Cookies on a Stick

You’ll need:

Oreo Cookies

Melted dipping chocolate (I actually used vanilla almond bark, because I had that on hand)

Sticks

Sprinkles

I know…that’s news to me too. I just assumed with a name like orange you’d be that color, but with Sunkist® Valencia oranges, that’s not always the case....

Creamy Orange Milkshake

So, oranges are supposed to be orange, right? Guess what… not always!

I know…that’s news to me too. I just assumed with a name like orange you’d be that color, but with Sunkist® Valencia oranges, that’s not always the case. I recently found out this cool little fact…

Sunkist® Valencia oranges may occasionally “re-green” in warm weather. When Valencias ripen on the tree, they turn a bright orange color but warm temperatures may make their skin reabsorb chlorophyll as they hang on the tree causing the orange color to look partly green—although the outside is green, the inside remains ripe and delicious!

As someone from Kansas, I just assumed if we were getting green oranges in the store, it was because they were picked too soon and not ripe or had been sitting too long. Not always the case.

So the next time you are in an all important trivia match, and a question comes up about Valencia oranges being green, you’ll know exactly why that is so.
I love infusing my favorite citrus flavors into a yummy summer treat. This Creamy Orange Milkshake using Sunkist® Valencia oranges tastes like a day on the beach. Enjoy!
