Unoriginal

I am so unoriginal. I know that many of you out there are great creators of recipes. Yes – I throw things together and create some yummy meals, but when I do that I never write it down or would not be able to recreate exactly what I did to perfection. I have always been amazed by people who can create recipes. Me…I’m a follower. I love those of you who create the recipes because then I can come along and follow in your footsteps and the hard work has already been done for me. I get nervous to switch things up too much because beyond recipe following, I am not so confident in my abilities.

Last week, the talented Deborah over at Taste and Tell posted a recipe for homemade teriyaki sauce. She created a delicious looking grilled chicken teriyaki dish. Myself, being the copycat follower that I am, decided to make her teriyaki dish this week for dinner. I copied her recipe for the teriyaki sauce exactly, but I stir fried some shrimp and pineapple in with the sauce instead of chicken. Thanks to Deborah posting the recipe, and me being an absolute follower, I will never be buying jarred teriyaki sauce at the store again.

I am not going to post the recipe here. I’ll lead you to Deborah’s site to be a copycat for yourself.

Oooohhhh, I’m so flattered – but I am a follower as well! I copied the recipe from somewhere else, that probably copied the recipe from somewhere else. It’s very rare when I create something myself. I love that you used this on shrimp – that sounds so good!!

It’s so much fun when you find a recipe that really works for you — regardless of where it comes from. I seldom create something completely from scratch. I start with a recipe, then push and pull at it until eventually it becomes my own. This one looks delicious — I love teriyaki sauce on just about anything.

Kristen, don’t be so hard on yourself, I too, and I know that there are many others out there that just follow (lol) and yes, when we create our own stuff, totally forget about writing and making notes of details.

Think of how good it is to be a follower with all these delicious blogs around. What was cooking like before blogs??

I do fully appreciate the ability to make something from nothing; cooking is very instinctive and the more you do it, the better you will get at pulling your dinner out of thin air from whatever you have on hand. Just keep at it! You’ll see.

Hey, I know what you mean about creating recipes. I’m not that good at it myself, but when I do come up with something good, I am always thrilled at the accomplishment! It is usually one of those days when I just throw stuff together from what is in the kitchen, never anything planned!

You can bet I’d love to have dinner at your place sometime, Kristen – your food and baked good always look so good! And they’re made with love – that counts a lot in my opinion.

You are one step ahead of me, I get scared to change a single ingredient or measurement in recipe, afraid I will ruin the entire thing.

    We ALL need recipes sometimes.

Thanks for the link – you are so sweet.

And think of it this way, you have 3 children and a husband – I have an empty house, so I SHOULD invent more recipes – it’s just expected. 🙂

This looks delicious – my boyfriend would love it!

i like to use recipes, too. hopefully one day i’ll be comfortable enough in the kitchen to just throw things together, but for now i’m ok with also being a follower.

the dinner looks fabulous, by the way.

So pleased to have found your blog. And to find a fellow ‘follower’. There are so many great recipes out there for inspiration, it’d be a shame not to make use of them!
Besides, adding shrimp and pineapple totally changes the recipe. I love the look of the swiss roll cake too – so cute!
